Area "Heroes" can now have perks when buying or selling their homes

Owning a home is part of the American dream, and now those who help protect that freedom can have it themselves.

Homes for heroes provides both Active and Retired Military Personnel, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and Registered Nurses, with discounts when buying or selling a home.

Affiliate realtors, such as Prudential Kahler take lower commission rates on home sales, but savings can also be felt at the bank.

"Outside of some of the savings they would get working with affiliated realtors, there's real dollar savings for them when they come into Highmark and get the financing through Highmark, Highmark actually pays for the appraiser's fee," says Director of Business Development, Dawn Laskowski.

Highmark Credit Union in Rapid City is the only financial institution West River, who has been approved by Homes for Heroes to offer the savings.
