It took five years of preparation and two years of construction but renovation of a KOTA Territory airport is now complete.
Dozens of people made a trip to Rapid City Regional Airport to take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The airport's renovation came with a $20.5 million price tag. Regional Airport was remodeled from top to bottom and includes new carpet, local artwork, a rooftop garden and updated security equipment.
Tom Zeller was on the board that constructed the airport in 1988. He says the changes make the airport more modern and functional.
"When we started this, there was no requirement for security," said Zeller. "We were worried about the amount of meters and greeters we could get directly to the gates as you know that all changed in 2001."
The project came in a million dollars under budget. That money will be used to update the airport's parking lot.
