2012 is proving to be a strong year for South Dakota's tourism industry.
Tourism numbers are out for august and they show the state is up 7.74% over last year when it comes to visitor traffic.
Colonial House Owner, Kevin Beshara says he's noticed that trend, especially during summer. Beshara says his Rapid City restaurant drew in 1,000 to 1,200 visitors per day in July, most of which were tourists.
"For us it's been up over last year," said Beshara. "Number wise and percentage wise we've been anywhere from 5% to 8% up over last year. July was actually up over August for some reason we don't know why."
The traffic count was also up at almost all Black Hills parks. Taxable sales for August were up 6.9%.
