Energy production conference targets small business owners

Posted:

With energy production booming around kota territory, small businesses are learning how they can get a piece of the action.

Federal energy leaders met with regional business owners and organizations Monday to discuss the economic opportunities from increased energy production in Wyoming and North Dakota.

The federal institute for 21st century energy has hosted the conference in at least 10 states so far.

Leaders say they hope to connect local businesses to opportunities created by the explosion of growth that successful energy production can generate.

"We try to give small businesses a voice to learn more about opportunities and learn more about how they can become engaged in the policy process to become advocates for more energy security," said Mike Koch, Vice president of the Institute of 21st Century Energy.

"You're talking about opportunity, incomes and salaries that are going to be higher. Some that are up to 70% higher than what our average is," said Ben Snow, with the Rapid City Economic development group.

And the school of mines is certainly at the forefront of the region's energy production.
The school recently won a $750,000 NASA grant to produce energy dense fuels.
