Sturgis Rally 2012 traffic was up just 0.2% over 2011.

The SD Department of Transportation (DOT) says their counters registered 416,072 vehicles from August 6 through 12.

The average daily count was 59,439.  The busiest day was Sunday August 6 with 76,533.  The lightest day was Sunday August 12 with a total of 25,764 vehicles recorded.

Traffic is counted at 8 locations around Sturgis.

The state DOT's number also confirm what locals have known for years: bikers go to Sturgis early.  If you add the Friday/Saturday/Sunday before the official Monday start of the Rally to the numbers - 10 days instead of the usual 7 days- traffic is up 4.8% compared to the same period in 2011.
