In Spearfish a swarm of yellow jackets feasted on grilled foods, good drinks, and watched their team take the football field.
It was the annual homecoming game for Black Hills State University today, known simply as "swarm day".
The fans returning to Spearfish cheered on the Yellow jacket football team, in the team's first home game as a member of the NCAA's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
And the game and atmosphere was just as good as the food.
"Tailgate is going to be awesome as usual. We have a lot of really dedicated fans, which is great because we have a lot of people who come out and show their support. As far as the new division goes, it's a rebuilding year so we've got a lot of time to transition, but we're going to make an impact this year I think," said BHSU alumnus John Geske.
The next Yellow jackets home football game will be on Oct. 6 against Adams State.
