The fall colors in Spearfish Canyon have reached 85 percent, according to Spearfish Canyon color expert and author Jerry Boyer.
If there is a peak this year, Boyer believes it will occur between Sunday and Tuesday. That's if the winds don't blow the fragile leaves to the ground before then.
"The reds of the Nannyberry and Sumac, the purples of the Dogwood, the golds of the Oak, and all shades of yellows from the Birch, Aspen, willows, and raspberries are in full burst," Boyer said.
He said each of the 89 curves of the Spearfish Canyon byway unfold glorious panoramic vistas.
