People in Rapid City got another chance to hear from the South Dakota Department of Transportation about the Mount Rushmore Road re-construction project.
Although it wasn't an official meeting and no action taken; business and home owners filled Black Hills Bagels Tuesday afternoon during the Mount Rushmore Road Group's monthly meeting.
DOT leaders gave a presentation about the project and re-capped the discussion from August meeting. Dan Staton with the DOT said while these designs aren't finalized, they are nearly complete.
"However we intend to attempt the best we can to have the plans mimic what was in the corridor study. Which was the result of many, many public meetings," said Dan Staton, Highway Access Engineer with the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
The proposed improvements would include:
-lighting,
-landscaping
- a median
The total cost for phase one and phase two is roughly 12 million dollars.
There will be more meetings between the DOT and landowners before the project is finalized.
