He's been in and out of the hospital since allegedly stabbing his pregnant girlfriend in a Rapid City Walmart parking lot.
Monday, Michael Young, 30, appeared in court, as state prosecutors made a request to have his medical records released.
Young was arrested in April with self-inflicted stab wounds.
Police say he stabbed Morgan Myers, 30, several times in the Walmart parking lot, killing her and her unborn child.
Newly elected State's Attorney Mark Vargo, who begins his term in
January, is now at the helm of the case which will likely be resolved
next year.
Vargo says it's a unique case that requires his full attention as he transitions into the state's attorneys office.
"The
news reports have been extensive, and I think that it touches people.
But beyond that I would be hesitant to compare it to other cases," said
Vargo.
Young has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder,
fetal homicide, felony violation of protection order and stalking. No
decision has been made yet on whether he will face the death penalty.
