Court upholds Sheridan murder conviction

Posted:

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ The Wyoming Supreme Court has upheld a Sheridan man's first-degree murder conviction in the January 2010 stabbing death of another man.

The court on Thursday rejected an appeal from 31-year-old Shawn Osborne, now serving a sentence of life without parole. He had challenged his conviction in the death of 42-year-old Gerald Bloom.

Authorities say Osborne cut Bloom's throat and disposed of his body in a sleeping bag beneath a trailer home because Osborne was upset that Bloom owed him $20.

The court rejected Osborne's argument on appeal that his trial lawyer should have called an expert witness to testify about the combined effect of heavy drinking and drug abuse on Osborne's ability to make a decision to kill Bloom.
