Last year for the Rushmore Safe Halloween Carnival?

Posted:

A local group that has been at the helm for a popular Halloween activity is stepping down after this year.

The Rushmore Safe Halloween Carnival, held for more than 20 years, in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, draws more than 15,000 trick-or-treaters and their families.
Sandi Moss, Treasurer of the event, says it costs between $10,000 - $12,000 each year to run the carnival and 250 volunteers to run the booths. About $4,000 of that is for candy, another $4,000 for the Civic Center, and nearly $1,000 for insurance. Money that comes from a giving community.

"The community has been wonderful in supporting us, but it has gotten to the point, it's very, very, hard to get people to donate or even to work and volunteer with us," says Moss.

Moss says that the Halloween carnival will go on if another group steps up, but after this year they are stepping down.
