A Pennington county jury returned a guilty verdict in the trial of a Rapid City man accused of rape.
Brandon Janis, 22, was convicted of raping a 14 year old girl in February of last year.
On the stand, Janis admitted that he had sexual contact with the underage victim but he claimed it was consensual.
The jury found him guilty of third degree rape, which means
the victim was under the influence of drugs and did not consent.
Two nurses from Rapid City regional hospital's emergency room also testified and told jurors that the victim identified her attacker by name.
They also say she gave a brief account of ingesting unidentified pills before the attack occurred.
Janis rested his head on the table for much of the proceedings and did not make eye contact with the jury.
State's attorney Ryan Ryder says Janis has no prior convictions.
Ryder says the incident occurred at a relative's home and both the victim and Janis were acquaintances prior to the rape.
Janis faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on October 9th.
