Storybook Island raises maintenance funds with Once Upon a Festival

Pirates and princesses and fairies -- oh my!

A KOTA Territory family attraction was filled with all of them over the weekend in a bid to raise maintenance funds.

Storybook Island held its annual Once Upon a Festival celebration over the weekend.

Admission was $2 a head, and visitors could also buy tickets to use for things like dragon rides and moon bounce time.

The park sold vendors space as well.

About 3,700 people came into the park during the festival, down a little from previous years.

They probably won't meet their funding goal, which means some projects will have to be put off.

"Maybe we'd be able to replace some of our fencing or our sidewalks" if they had reached their goal, said director Connie LeZotte. "But we don't do major cuts here in the park necessarily."

Storybook Island closed officially on Labor Day.
