SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP)

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department is considering whether to raise hunting and fishing license fees.

State Wildlife Director Tony Leif tells the Sioux Falls Argus Leader that the costs of running the department have increased 18 percent since license fees were last raised in 2005.

Leif says Game, Fish and Parks Department officials are now preparing a budget for next year. He says if the decided to ask for a license fee increase, they will present the plan to the commission that oversees the department in October. The public then would have at least a month to comment before the Game, Fish and Parks commission makes a final decision.
