2nd Annual Ruck March in Remembrance of Sept 11th

Posted:

Almost eleven years later, those who vowed never to forget the victims who died during the attacks of September 11th, 2001 make good on that promise.

This Tuesday marks 11 years to the day, that America was attacked on our own soil.

With that somber anniversary approaching, a group of local service men and women decided to honor the victims of that day, through a walk of remembrance.

More than 100 men and women in uniform joined together for the 2nd Annual Ruck March Saturday.

They walked eleven miles beginning at Ellsworth Air Force Base and ending at Rushmore Crossing.

Those who participated say they walk to remember fallen military members, first responders and civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and during the war on terror.

"Never forget, that's the message I wanted to send out that we just never forget. There were a lot of lives that were lost during the 9–11 attacks and even more lives that were lost over the course of the next 11 years," says one of the event organizers Staff Sergeant Glenn Marcy.

"There's a lot of folks that were marching here today and they joined after 9–11 and they only reason why they joined was to serve their country and I think that is just awesome," says Colonel T. J. Goulter.

Along the way marchers stopped at Motive Parts and Supply, to raise South Dakota's largest flag to half mast.
