South Dakota voted best place to be young

Posted: Updated:

Many people think of the Black Hills as an ideal place to retire but a recent study shows South Dakota is actually a better place to be young.

South Dakota is ranked second out of ten states where 'youth rules', according to a survey by businessinsider.com.

Considering lifestyle factors, like healthfulness, and the cost of a college education, both Dakota's come out on top.

Affordable housing, youthfulness of the state and availability of living space were also factors.

Many local young professionals agree, the Midwest, Rapid cCty in particular, has a lot to offer the young and ambitious.

"It also provides an opportunity for young people to get a start because the competition isn't as fierce as it is in larger cities and metropolitan areas right now," said Karissa Eifert, a young professional with the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce.

South Dakota's unemployment rate was roughly 4.4% as of July.

The average price of college tuition in South Dakota ranges between $2,000 to $7,000 a year.
