Labor marks end of a better summer season for Wall Drug

Posted:

Labor Day usually signifies an end to summer and with that, the end of the tourism season.

It's a weekend many local businesses look forward to for one last hurrah.

And they are excited about the Labor Day crowds.

Rick Hustead, Chairman of Wall Drug says they are already up 4% compared to last year's holiday weekend.

And for the entire summer tourism season, they enjoyed more crowds than last year, up 6% for the season.

Hustead says they try to keep improving to keep people coming back, "We try to improve things every year, we think that 50% of our customers are repeat customers and we will try and give them something new and different every year if we can."

"We're on our way to Mt. Rushmore and on vacation. It's nice here, very nice, and we love the badlands," says Mary Sue Kelly and Sherry Smith, here on vacation from Kansas City.

Hustead says even though they will see a decrease in traffic after this weekend, they will still fare well through November.
