Crazy Horse Memorial offers canned-food admission for Labor Day

Posted:

A KOTA Territory memorial-in-progress celebrates Labor Day weekend with an open house and a food-raising campaign.

For three cans of food or cash donations to Feeding South Dakota (by way of the KOTA Care and Share Food Drive), visitors can get into the Crazy Horse Memorial through Monday.

In addition to helping out those in need, the Memorial also treated guests to a special program called Honoring the Circle Saturday, a celebration of peace among all races.

"This place was just an awesome place to come and to be," said Grey Eagle of Honoring the Circle, "and, you know, they knew there was a lot of people here, too, so that we could reach a lot of people for this gathering."

Just how much food the memorial raises this weekend won't be known until later in the week, but at similar events in June, it raised more than 26,000 pounds of food for Feeding South Dakota.
