Historic Medora to Deadwood Wagon and Trail Rides arrives

Posted:

The Historic Medora to Deadwood Wagon and Trail ride finished its journey from Buffalo to Deadwood Saturday afternoon.

Beginning last Saturday, the nearly 100 riders rode 104 miles to their Deadwood destination.

The ride was to raise money for the Days of 76 Museum in Deadwood, as well as bring back a taste of what things used to be like in the Black Hills area.

"When we think back to what it was like for them, when they rode on the stage coach they rode for 36 hours, with no break, other than when they switched horses every 15 miles. We're pretty lucky, we had nice wagons, everybody had hydraulic breaks," says Chairman Linda Gilbert.

"It was great, met a bunch of the local ranchers and had a wonderful time," says participant Wylie Schwaln.

Members of the Wagon Ride committee say they hope to raise more than $10,000 for the museum.
