Rapid City students celebrate Raven Day

14-year old Raven Rud who died Monday from brain cancer.

Friday was "Raven Day" at Southwest Middle School in Rapid City.  Hundreds of students gathered on the football field to remember and honor their former classmate and tears, hugs, and stories were shared.

After two years of battling a rare brain cancer Raven died at her home.

Southwest Middle School Principal Jackie Talley says Raven was a wonderful person to be around. "She's the type of girl that wore her heart on her sleeve, worried about everybody else," said Talley. "When you asked her on any given day how you doing Raven, [she said] fine how are you, you know she just made us very humble."

"It's kind of been cloudy all day long until this thing happened and now the sun's come out and I kind of think maybe Raven's just looking down saying everything's ok," said P.E. Teacher John Aldridge.

Raven graduated from Southwest Middle School last spring, and was planning on attending St. Thomas More High School this fall.
