Posted:

A Virginia man accused in the 2011 death of an Ellsworth airman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

As part of a plea agreement, 24-year-old Marcus Wingate admitted shooting 22-year-old Richard Redick. Wingate was sentenced to eight years in prison, 10 years on the manslaughter charge, with two years suspended.

Police in Hampton, Virginia say Redick was killed during an argument with Wingate at an apartment complex where Redick's estranged wife lives. Redick was on leave Ellsworth Air Force Base at the time.

He had served with the 28th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron since 2009.
