Elementary students find a cool way to beat the heat

Posted:

Lucky students at South Canyon elementary school in Rapid City find a unique way to beat the heat.

Re-creating an innovative toy he saw many years ago, Principal Brad Jungwirth brought out a water jump rope for students Wednesday.

The jump rope offers a refreshing spray of cool water for kids, and is only brought out on days when the heat index reaches record highs.

Jungwirth says he searched everywhere for the water jump rope he saw sold in stores many years ago. Thee years ago decided to make his own for the students to enjoy.

Jungwirth says this is only the second time in his 12 years in the district that he's seen students dismissed early due to extreme heat.
