Investigation clears Rapid City cemetery of mis-burial

Posted:

After an investigation of more than 350 grave sites, a KOTA Territory cemetery is cleared of allegations of mis-burial.

Casey Peterson and Associates was hired to look into the plot ownership. The firm randomly selected 378 grave sites and traced the ownership to the master record book. While they found no evidence that people were buried in the wrong graves, they did find 11 instances of grave sites that did not have a marker or headstone- resulting in a 95 percent confidence level in the cemetery's management.

"Our records are accurate and with the random survey that they did, they didn't find anyone buried in the wrong spot as a result of that," said Lon VanDeusen, Parks and Recreation manager.

The firm also concluded that no further investigation is necessary.
