Central States Fair posts higher attendance and spending

Posted:

From elephants and zip lines, to concerts and pig wrestling, the Central States Fair had lots of events to draw people in.

About 150,000 people visited the Central States Fair in Rapid City.  Warm weather and a lack of thunderstorms made attendance slightly higher this year.

Overall people spent more money at the fair. Central States Fair General Manager Ron Jeffries says he thinks having ATMs on the grounds helped contribute to that. "Some of the vendors were down a bit in terms of food sales but some of them were up as well so overall I think that you'll find that we had an up in revenues in several different categories including our parking admissions, our grand stands, and our carnival revenue especially," said Jeffries.

Jeffries says there is no resting at the fairgrounds. 260 out of the year events are held on the grounds and this weekend there are four including the Black Hills Celtic Games, a horse sale, and a wedding.
