East Middle School is ready for students

Posted:

Rapid City's newest middle school opens its doors for the first time to showcase all it has to offer.

The close to 19 million dollar project is complete and the brand new 148 thousand square foot middle school will be able to accommodate about 800 students.

Teachers, school board members, and the community gathered Thursday for the ribbon cutting and a tour of the new facility.

Principal Stan Evans is excited for the students to see the new school.

"It's still the work of our teachers, the attitude and work of our students and the support of the families; that's what makes a school successful. The facility is a part of that and this facility will very much meet the needs of the students of the Rapid Valley community," said Stan Evans, East Middle School Principal.

Evans said the teachers have worked extremely hard to complete the move before Monday.

But there's still more work that needs to be done this weekend.
