Protecting the arts in KOTA Territory

Posted:

At last week's city council committee meeting there was discussion about whether the city should subsidize the arts in Rapid City.

Monday night, local residents passionate about the arts wanted to air their support to the full council.  Speakers included Karen Gundersen from the Allied Arts Fund and SD Senator Stan Adelstein (R-Rapid City).

In the mayor's budget, funding will still be allocated to organizations such as the Journey Museum and the Dahl Fine Arts Center, but four out of ten aldermen wanted to make some changes.

Senator Adelstein and other arts advocates say they were set to convince them otherwise.

There was no vote to change this part of the budget, citizens just wanted to ensure that the importance of the arts was discussed and in the forefront of council's minds.
