All aboard: new Rapid City bus route

Posted:

A new bus route in Rapid City is up and running, and it stops at some high traffic areas including Walmart, Rushmore Crossing, and Western Dakota Tech. Those are just a few of the stops along the new Coolidge Bus Route.

To showcase the new route Rapid Transit is giving free rides all week. The route is broken down into a north and south section and each is about 30 minutes long.

Mayor Sam Kooiker and Alderman Jerry Wright took some time to make the northern trip Monday.

Kooiker says the new route is very important to Rapid City citizens, and the full bus he road in was proof of that to him. "We've had a vibrant transportation system in Rapid City for some time," said Kooiker. "We're now to the point where we needed to expand it and so this is the first new transit route in ten years."

Kooiker says once the new Walmart is open there may be more buses dedicated to the southern leg of the Coolidge Route.
