Rapid City man faces 10 years for possessing rifle

A Rapid City man faces 10 years in federal prison for being a felon in possessing of a firearm.

Christopher Arehart, age 39, of Rapid City pleaded guilty on August 16th before United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken.


The charge relates to Arehart possessing a rifle on February 2, 2012.

The investigation was conducted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Rapid City Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Laura Shattuck.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for December 14, 2012. Arehart was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
