Walmart brings business to south Rapid City

Posted:

The new Walmart on the south side of town is nearing completion, and where there's a Walmart, other new businesses often pop up.

Rapid City Planning Commission Director Brett Limbaugh says there are currently no proposed businesses to be built in the area at this time, but he also says there probably will be in the near future.

But some businesses are seizing the opportunity. A strip mall across from Walmart is beginning to fill up. Coming soon signs fill windows and construction is tying up loose ends.

A Premium Verizon Wireless store opened today in the strip mall, and store manager Jason Knox says that location is key for any business. "As soon as the new Walmart opens this place will explode I think," said Knox. "Looking outside right now there's all kinds of traffic people cutting across between 5th and 8th Street on Stumer Road, and yeah I think we're going to be quite busy.

Other businesses coming soon to the strip mall include a nail salon, a pet food store, and Knox says there are rumors of a Jimmy John's.
