Today a group was recognized for their efforts with developing a special bond with children.
The Rapid City Elks lodge hosted Friday morning's Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent of South Dakota recognition luncheon.
The Foster Grandparent program connects volunteers 55 years and older with children through either after-school and summer programs or by head–start and pre–school programs to prepare children for school.
Alderman Jerry Wright delivered Mayor Sam Kooiker's proclamation during the reception.
And Carolyn Wilber, a Foster Grandparent for three years has had a very rewarding experience with the program.
"I was just at a time in my life when I was just
retired and I just wanted to give back. It has been a win–win situation," said Wilber.
The volunteers donate between 15–40 hours a week with their companion or foster grandchild.
