The new Rockyford Community School unveiled to public

Posted:

It took 7-years of planning and nearly 2-years of building, but the newly, improved Rockyford Community School will be ready for students next week.

The Shannon County school unveiled its new look at Wednesday's grand opening. The school has more than doubled in size, adding on more than 64,000 square feet, a cafeteria, gymnasium and 13 classrooms.

Community members say the school is no longer overcrowded and now has better educational tools for students.

"The classrooms are a lot bigger in size. They got up-to-date technology which we didn't have before which makes for a lot better learning environment," said Todd O'Ryan, a 6-year board member.

The expansion project cost $17 million, which also included the renovation of the original building.  The school will also serve as a community center.
