Experts want to battle the Pine Beetle earlier this year

Experts want to start the program to battle the pine beetle earlier this year.

Last year's program didn't kick off until October and by then the problem was wide spread.

The program inspected more than 13 hundred properties and found more than 12 hundred infested trees; costing the Parks and Recreation Department 130 thousand dollars in reimbursement to landowners.

Urban Forester Gary Garner says among many changes, they need to evaluate what worked and what didn't before moving forward.

"We need to fully evaluate whether or not the cost share program that we offered, did we get maximum benefit for out dollar or can we need to modify that and still have the same effect," says Garner.

The 2011 - 2012 cost the department approximately 162 thousand dollars, nearly half of the authorized funding amount.
