Rapid City hotel launches domestic hunger campaign

Posted:

The Hilton Garden Inn, in Rapid City has partnered with Feeding America to offer special room rates that help feed the hungry.

Those staying on a Friday or Saturday night can choose to pay just four dollars more , and in turn get a gourmet breakfast buffet. The hotel will then make a donation to the nation's leading domestic hunger relief organization.

The event, which runs until September 20th, is just the beginning of the hotel chain's community agenda.

"In September all the hotels across the country will take a local organization and take care of those during the fall and winter months where its most needed with the homeless," said Monte Hartle, director of operations at the Hilton Garden Inn, Rapid City.

Hartle said the hotel was reaching out to community partners to organize a food drive later this fall.

Representatives for the hotel chain say nearly 18 million children will be at greater risk of hunger while they are out of school and don't have access to free or reduced priced lunches.
