Bikers battered by hail in Deadwood

Posted:

Bikers got through most of this year's Sturgis rally without hailstorms to dodge, but their luck ran out Friday afternoon near Deadwood.

Piles of hail and leaves riddled the streets. Some locals even had to shovel their sidewalks to clear the hail.

While it seems like Deadwood got the worst of it, quite a few bikers got caught up in the storm during the trip to and from Sturgis.

Newlywed couple Nellie and Bill Nelson thought they could outrun the storm, but instead had to pull over and wait out the worst of it. "It was really hard to see because it was raining super, super hard and then we had to pull off on a dirt road which is always frightening when it's wet and raining and stuff and I'll probably have bruises so I'll be able to connect the dots tomorrow morning when I wake up," said Nellie Nelson.

There were reports of hail three inches deep in some places along the path of the storm, and there were no reports of any serious injuries.
