
Finally some relief in dry weather pattern; not rain, but disaster assistance approval.
Pennington County, along with 25 other counties in South Dakota are approved as drought disaster areas.
That opens the door for farmers and ranchers to apply for much need relief funding and low interest loans.
Last month, the Pennington County Commission recognized the county as a disaster area. The declaration was then sent on to Governor Dennis Daugaard who petitioned Tom Vilsack, the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
The U.S. Drought monitor shows all of Pennington County in a moderate or severe drought.
