Late SD lawmaker honored with flags at half-staff

Posted:

Gov. Dennis Daugaard is asking that all flags in South Dakota be flown at half-staff on Wednesday in honor of former state Rep. Maurice LaRue of Sturgis.

According to public internet postings from daughter Carole, LaRue was diagnosed with Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma in November 2010.

After chemo was administered, the cancer was gone by March 2011. Earlier this year, the cancer returned.

After being transferred to hospice care on Thursday, LaRue died on Saturday.

LaRue served in the state House in 2003 and 2004, and as the mayor of Sturgis through 2010.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.
