Nearly 18,000 ducks float for charity down Rapid Creek

What's that in Rapid Creek? A bird? A fish?

No, it's 18,000 rubber ducks raising money for charity. Sunday was the 23rd annual Great Black Hills Duck Race.

The fundraiser brought in more than $95,000 dollars for the Children's Miracle Network.

The rubber ducks were thrown into Rapid Creek from the West Main Bridge, and finished out the race at Memorial Park.

Angie Kleaver, Director of the Rapid City Regional Hospital Foundation, says it's a great silly event for a serious cause.

"Well today is just nothing but fun, fun, FUN! And when you have 18,000 little rubber ducks floating down the creek in our community and nearly all of those 18,000 ducks have been sponsored by our community, we have such a giving community, we can't be anything but excited and have a great deal of fun today," said Kleaver.

Participants paid five dollars to sponsor a duck.
