Back 40 Mountain Bike race benefits local charity

Posted:

More than 150 bicyclists powered through heat and rough terrain Saturday in the name of charity.

It was the first ever Black Hills Back 40 Mountain Bike Race to benefit the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity.

Phil Busching, the Director of the race, says an overall love for biking and a desire to do more for local charities led to the new annual event.

Each year there will be a different charity that they benefit.

Busching says it takes a lot of work and energy to get something like this going, but it all came together rather well.

"Kind of got the perfect storm of organizers and people to get involved with it and through their help kinda got this thing off the ground. So this is the first year, there is places we can improve it but we had a good turn out, 162 for the first year which is pretty good," said Busching

Busching says despite some minor set backs, they will work out the bugs and look for a bigger turn out next year.
