More subdivisions become fire ready through Firewise Program

Posted:

With all the fires around the area this season, local communities are not taking any chances.

The Woodridge subdivision is one of several neighborhoods around the area working to be 'firewise'.

It's a program that works to clear out anything that would add fuel to a fire.

Today volunteers from both the Rapid City Fire Department and the community, teamed up to clean up a neighborhood.

Lieutenant Tim Weaver with the Rapid City Fire Department says many of Rapid City's subdivisions are at risk.

"This is a big problem in the city, wild and urban interface fire problem is a large one in Rapid City. And so more projects like this obviously help reduce the risk of a catastrophic fire within the city limits."

Chapel Valley also worked its way to being 'fire ready' today.
