People with and without disabilities team up for a theatrical performance

Posted:

Actors and actresses took the stage Saturday for two performances at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

They transported viewers into a fantasy world with the production titled 'QuintEssence.'

Heather Pickering, of Flutter Productions, wrote and directed the musical, along with choreographer Andrea Schaeffer, of Barefoot Dance Studio.

Pickering says this is an opportunity for those with disabilities and without to put their creative minds to work together.

"A lot of people find they're very inspired and not only are they inspired by each other, they also have the opportunity to learn new things and see things through a different set of eyes. And that's incredibly important," says Pickering.

The Suzie Cappa Arts Center produced the show, with help from the South Dakota Arts Council and Black Hills Works Foundation.
