Former Rapid City Mayor pleads guilty

A former Rapid City mayor pleads guilty to charges stemming from a traffic stop.
 
Jim Shaw, 65, pled guilty Friday, to speeding, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle stemming from an early June traffic stop.

In exchange for his admission, the state dismissed a charge of obstruction of a police officer.

Shaw, who was not in court today, must pay fines for both charges ,totaling $145-dollars, and write a letter of admission to the court by August 1st.

Police allege that Shaw ignored police commands when he was pulled over for speeding on east mall drive.
 
The arresting officer pulled his weapon while waiting for backup.
Shaw has called the incident "an overreaction."
