Construction at area schools is on schedule

East Middle School construction. East Middle School construction.

Phase one of construction is nearly complete at Rapid City's Central High School.

Mike Kenton, the Support Services Director with the Rapid City School District, says phase one included everything other then the fine arts center. Everything is complete in the first phase except the landscaping.

Kenton says the hot weather continues to put much of the landscaping on hold.

But he adds the rest of the project is on schedule and phase two is underway.

Meanwhile, teaching supplies and furniture are being moved into the newly built East Middle School in Rapid Valley.

The close to 19 million dollar project nears completion. Kenton says the 148 thousand square foot building has only a few finishing touches to go.

The school will be able to accommodate about 800 students.

Both construction projects will be complete in time for the August 23rd open house.
