Rapid City landfill could get a facelift

Posted:

At a Wednesday news conference, Rapid City Mayor Sam Kooiker unveiled a $2 to $3 million project to improve the city landfill.

Currently for safety reasons, rain or high winds close the public dump, but the proposed changes would allow it to stay open during inclement weather. The project would include paving roads and installing enclosed bins to keep garbage contained.

The Mayor says the renovations would create a safe and sheltered area to dump off garbage.

The project would also create two different areas to dump garbage, one for the general public and another for businesses.
