Mayor expresses concern over Civic Center parking and ADA compliance

Posted:

As the Rapid City Council moves forward on the Civic Center expansion, the Mayor voices his concerns concerning the parking and area accessibility.

In an effort to increase transparency Rapid City Mayor Sam Kooiker held his quarterly progress report press conference Wednesday.

He says the Civic Center ADA compliance and parking need to be addressed more thoroughly.

Kooiker says there are many steps the City Council and Civic Center board need to take before moving forward. But ultimately the final decision should be up to the public.

"I believe this should go to an initiated measure and a public vote if and when it's ready to move forward and that could be a while," said Mayor Kookier.

Kooiker says the entire process will take a long time and the cost of the project needs to be laid out.
