The Rapid City Police Department will observe the one-year anniversary of the shooting that killed Officer Ryan McCandless and Officer Nick Armstrong, and injured Officer Tim Doyle.

Beginning at precisely 4:30 p.m. on August 2, the RCPD Honor Guard will stand in silent memorial at the corner of Greenbriar and Anamosa. Officers will keep watch over the site until after dark, according to a RCPD news release.

"One year later, there still aren't words to express the loss of two officers, co-workers, and friends," Chief Steve Allender said. "And so we will be silent, to honor Nick and Ryan, and to remember their brave actions and the support received by so many in the minutes and weeks that followed."

The public is welcome to visit the site, and the department asks that visitors pay their respects by observing silence in the area of the memorial. There will not be a ceremony or public address.
