Still no trial set for man accused of shooting at Rapid City police

Posted:

A man accused of having a shootout with police after a high speed chase in January likely won't get a trial date set for a couple more months.

Forty–two year old James Baker has another motions hearing set for August 21st. But Defense Attorney Tim Rensch says this case will go through a long drawn-out process and a jury trial date probably won't be decided on until September or October.

On January tenth, police say Baker led officers on a chase along Saint Patrick Street.  After being stopped by road spikes, police say Baker got out of his vehicle and began firing at officers.  He was shot by police three times and then transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital for his gunshot wounds.

In February Baker pled not guilty to nine counts including first degree attempted murder and aggravated assault. If convicted of all counts baker could face 224 years in prison.
