28th Bomb Wing gets deployed

Posted:

More than 350 airmen from Ellsworth Air Force Base are being deployed to play a critical role in missions in Southwest Asia.

Saturday the 28th Bomb Wing makes its way through a briefing and final checks at Ellsworth Air Force Base before their journey begins.

They will execute B – 1 missions which are designed to deliver large amounts of both precision and non–precision weapons against adversaries.

The Airmen sent out today will act as watchful eyes for those troops who are on the ground.

"What they'll be doing specifically is they'll be going to the Southwest Asia region. Supporting Central Command Commanders priorities, supporting ground fight in Afghanistan," said Col. Gentry Boswell.

"It's rewarding to know what it's for over there, we do a lot of training here, and you work hard but over there you're working twice as hard but it feels twice as good. You're doing big things over there," said David Baker, Senior Airmen of upstate New York.

Their deployment will last 6-7 months and have 12–16 hour work days.
