It's what everyone is talking about, the heat, and how
to beat it.
Whether it's taking a dip in the pool or staying indoors, one thing is for sure, the heat is affecting people's daily activities.
"It's HOT!" screamed Rapid City's Logan Barndt.
You don't need a Meteorologist to tell you it's hot
outside. Just look at everyone taking a dip in Rapid Creek or lounging in the shade.
"The weather is very hot and very dry. Anything in
the 3 digits is a little extreme," said Doug Saxton, here visiting from Michigan.
People are feeling the heat as thermometers across KOTA Territory top the century mark yet again.
"The weather is pretty hot, it's a little boggy out so
we decided to come down and get wet," said Rapid City's Tony Maraz, getting relief in the water.
The fountains of Main Street Square are a small oasis for
many who are trying to escape the heat.
But they only provide temporary relief, causing people to
turn to other alternatives.
"Trying to stay inside as much as I can, trying to
drink a lot of cold beverages. Beer," said Saxton while joking about ways to stay cool.
"Lately I had to upgrade the air conditioner and put in
some shades in the house and get water stuff, water guns, water balloons," said Maraz.
"When it gets too hot we go inside and walk
around [in the air conditioning]," said Barndt.
But it wasn't all bad, Mother Nature did provide a
little bit of relief.
"Right now its about good since you got a cool breeze
and stuff," explained Barndt.
Still, it's hot, making people wish for cooler temperatures and rain.
"80 or so, a little bit of breeze not too hot
out," dreamed Maraz.
"About 85 and sunny, nice chill wind," dreamed Saxton.
Their may be some reprieve from the heat soon, but by the
end of the week temperatures will soar yet again.
"God help us, it needs to cool down a little," prayed Saxton.
"That's South Dakota for you, just endure it it'll be
ok," said Maraz while laughing at South Dakota's roller coaster temperatures.
Rapid City hit a high of 98 at the KOTA Territory TV station, 102 at the airport, and Philip hit 109.
