A preliminary hearing is set for former Rapid City Mayor Jim Shaw. Shaw was not present in magistrate court Friday morning, but his lawyer Eric Pickar appeared and set a preliminary hearing date for July 27th.
Shaw is charged with speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and obstructing police.
On June 5th, police say Shaw was driving 52 mph in a 40 mph zone when he was pulled over on East Mall Drive.
Shaw is accused of jumping out of his vehicle and refusing to obey officer commands; forcing the officer to pull his duty weapon.
The ex–mayor has said that the officer over–reacted. He claimed the same thing when he was arrested in 2006 at the Iowa State Fair and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
