Attorney General Marty Jackley says Matthew Charles Tornquist, 26, Hot Springs, was indicted Thursday by a Fall River County Grand Jury in the death of his mother, Catherine Tornquist, 56, who has been missing since last October.  Her body has not been found.

Tornquist was indicted on alternate counts of first and second degree murder.  He was also indicted on one count of grand theft.

The indictment charges that Matthew Tornquist murdered his mother at her home in Fall River County sometime around October 4, 2011. The attorney general did not provide any details.

Matthew Tornquist currently is in the Pennington County jail on unrelated federal charges.

There have been over 50 searches in relation to Catherine Tornquist's disappearance including public assisted searches.

Fall River County Sheriff Rich Mraz says it has been stressful doing so many searches and getting nowhere. "I was happy to see the indictment. We can move forward with the case now and hopefully we can actually find Catherine someplace," said Mraz.

If convicted, Tornquist could face death or a mandatory life sentence.  The penalty for second degree murder is a mandatory life sentence in the state penitentiary.
